Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information Tradi collects, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
Last updated 31 August 2026
Before you read this
Tradi is not yet open to the public, and today this website collects almost nothing. The sections below separate what we collect now from what we will collect once bookings open, so that you can tell the difference.
Who is responsible for your information
TRADI (PTY) LTD (registration number 2026/580212/07), of 32 Draper Street, Newlands, Cape Town, Western Cape, 7708, South Africa, is the responsible party for the personal information described here.
Our Information Officer can be reached at hello@tradi.co.za. Please put Privacy in the subject line.
What we collect today
- Your email address, if you choose to join our launch list. Nothing else - we do not ask for your name, your phone number or your location.
- Standard server and delivery records. Our hosting and email providers log requests in the ordinary course of running the service, including IP addresses. We use these to keep the site working and to stop abuse of the signup form.
This website sets no cookies, and runs no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. If that changes we will say so here, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
What we will collect when bookings open
When the marketplace opens, using it will mean giving us more. We expect that to include:
- Account details - name, email address, phone number.
- Job details - the address where work is to be done, what needs doing, and messages between a customer and a tradesperson.
- For tradespeople, verification material - identity documents, trade qualifications, registrations, insurance and bank details for payouts.
- Reviews and ratings you write, and replies to them.
We will never hold your card details. Card payments are handled by our payment provider; we receive a confirmation that a payment succeeded, not the card.
This section will be replaced with a description of what is actually collected before any of it is collected.
Why we use it, and on what basis
- To send you launch updates - with your consent, given when you join the list. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by writing to us.
- To run the service - once bookings open, to perform the agreement between us, and between you and a tradesperson.
- To keep the platform safe and lawful - verification, fraud prevention, and meeting obligations under South African law, including financial record-keeping.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. We use a small number of operators who process it on our instructions:
- Amazon Web Services - hosting. Our infrastructure runs in the AWS Cape Town region, so this data stays in South Africa.
- Resend - sending email and managing the launch list. Resend operates outside South Africa, so joining the list involves a cross-border transfer of your email address, as section 72 of POPIA requires us to tell you. They are bound by contract to protect it and to use it only to deliver our email.
When bookings open, a payment provider will be added to this list. We will name it here before it processes anything.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
How long we keep it
- Launch list - until you unsubscribe, or 12 months after launch, whichever comes first. Unsubscribing removes you from the list; we keep a record that the address unsubscribed so that we do not email it again by mistake.
- Server and delivery logs - a short operational period, measured in weeks rather than years.
- Financial records, once there are any, for as long as South African tax and company law requires.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep;
- stop using it for direct marketing, at any time and at no cost;
- object to a particular use of it.
Write to hello@tradi.co.za. We will respond within a reasonable time and will not charge you for a request that is not excessive. We may need to confirm who you are before acting, so that nobody else can make a request in your name.
Keeping it safe
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is limited to the people who need it, and we hold as little as we can - the best protection for information is not to have collected it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
Changes, and how to complain
We will update this policy as Tradi grows, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. Where a change is material we will tell you rather than rely on you noticing.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, at inforegulator.org.za. We would rather hear from you first, but it is your right either way.
